by Summer

Choosing the right eCommerce platform is a big step forward when bringing your business online. There are many options to choose from. However, how can you find the best solution for your project? There are many factors to consider when building an eCommerce website, including flexibility, customization options, featured or supported functionality, etc. That’s when Magento should be the best deal. What is the Magento 2 eCommerce platform? What makes the Magento Luma theme, the default Magento 2 theme, worth your attention? This Magento 2 Luma theme review discusses these and many other questions that should come in handy during your eCommerce site’s launch.

Magento is a powerful open-source eCommerce platform that you can use for building websites of all sizes and different business needs. It’s a scalable eCommerce platform featuring extended customizability and robust tools, letting you launch remarkable and competitive online stores. It enables businesses of all sizes to deliver outstanding eCommerce experiences to their customers. It provides a wide range of SEO capabilities and features, which make this eCommerce platform the best choice for every entrepreneur and business that wants to start selling products or services online.

Some of the major Magento features that can effectively boost your eCommerce project include:

  • Magento is an open-source platform that provides you with scalable and flexible eCommerce solutions. It’s flexible enough to adjust as per your business’s unique requirements. It also lets you create unique and differentiated branded experiences.
  • The platform provides responsiveness and great performance for the mobile versions of your eCommerce website. We live in the age when 58.99% of global website traffic comes from mobile devices. That is why both the free community edition and the enterprise Magento version use HTML5 to maximize the mobile shopping experience.
  • Magento is one of the most popular eCommerce platforms in the world. It’s been growing steadily for the past decade. The acquisition by Adobe brought a massive boost to the platform. As new technologies emerge, extensions and integrations are constantly added to Magento, providing a more seamless and hassle-free experience.
  • The communities of solo developers and agencies creating free and premium Magento themes are continually expanding. Today, one shouldn’t have difficulty finding a ready-to-go Magento theme suited for any topic or industry. Whatever functional or design elements you’d like your eCommerce project to feature, you can easily find a ready-to-go Magento theme that matches your budget and other needs.

With that said, let’s review the default Magento 2 theme named Luma, see what functionality it includes, and compare it to other ready-to-go Magento solutions.

In Magento, “Luma” is the default theme that comes with the platform, offering a basic, responsive design for online stores. It serves as a starting point for customization, allowing businesses to modify colors, fonts, layouts, and more to create a unique and branded shopping experience. Luma also provides demo content for reference and is a valuable resource for developers and designers working with Magento, adhering to best practices and ensuring responsiveness across various devices.

Magento 2 Luma theme is not a brand-new release. The default Magento 2 theme was presented to the audience in August 2015. It adopted all major features and updated functionality of the improved Magento eCommerce platform and made it available for free use. Magento Luma theme features a clean design that is easy on the eyes and features better usability practices than its predecessor – Magento 1 default “Madison Island” theme.

Luma is not the only Magento theme that you can download for free. There are also many other themes offering easy Magento customization. In this Magento 2 Luma theme review, let’s compare Luma against F2, see their common features, and the options that vary one theme from another.

Besides Luma, Chroma also is a fundamental concept in the realm of video and image processing and plays a pivotal role in how we perceive and manipulate visual content. Both luma and chroma are essential components in video and image processing, serving different purposes in the representation of visual information. In this exploration, we will delve into the fascinating world of luma and chroma, uncovering their significance, differences, and the remarkable impact they have on our visual encounters with the digital realm.

Definition Represents brightness or luminance. Represents color and saturation.
Component Typically found in the Y component of color spaces (e.g., YUV). Found in the U and V (or Cb and Cr) components of color spaces.
Grayscale Luma is often displayed in grayscale, where lighter shades indicate higher luminance and darker shades represent lower luminance. Chroma is typically not displayed in grayscale and is used to represent color differences.
Importance Crucial for determining image or video brightness, especially in black and white imagery. Critical for accurately reproducing colors, color correction, and color manipulation.
Application Used in video compression, image processing, and broadcast systems. Used in color grading, correction, and in ensuring accurate color reproduction in displays.

Together, these two elements form the foundation for the world of color and brightness in our digital displays, influencing everything from how we enjoy vibrant multimedia experiences to the intricacies of image editing and video production.

Luma default Magento 2 theme adopted all core features of the eCommerce platform. It features a clean content presentation and tile-based structure (basically, it’s one of the main features that differentiate Luma from the Magento 1 default theme). Magento 2 Luma theme features tile-based banners that occupy most of the theme’s front page. All texts written on Luma’s tiles look good on desktops. However, the situation is different on touch screens.

The F2 free Magento 2 theme looks different from Luma but is not less usable or functional. The theme’s front page features a large hero image in the header enhanced with a full-width slider. Like Luma, the F2 Magento 2 theme also includes a set of banners organized into a usable masonry flat style. The F2 Magento 2 theme uses large, scalable typography, which seamlessly adjusts to any screen size.

The Luma and F2 Magento2 theme product pages are designed in a clean and neat style. The product images are big and high-quality, letting users easily identify the peculiarities of the products displayed on them. Every product is demonstrated with several images and supports different color variations. Both free Magento 2 themes provide product details with reviews below the product image, product name, star ratings, pricing, size, color options, and CTAs placed to the right of the product image.

The F2 theme features a block with Related Products organized into a carousel product list. Additionally, users can check carousel product lists featuring custom-made collections of “products they might also like.”

Cart and Checkout

As per Luma’s cart and checkout pages, both are intuitive and easy to navigate. At the same time, the Cart page should be somewhat improved. In the Discount Code area, there is no information about how to get a coupon code. It might make customers feel confused when they see a coupon code area but do not know how to obtain one. Instead, one might put something like “How to get a coupon code” next to “Discount codes,” which should make things more comprehensive for the end customers, so they don’t need to leave the cart.
