For example, you already have many different types of Sprite Stasis Balls in different sizes and colors as simple products in your store. And now, you want to create a configurable product for them.
First, you need to create a new Magento 2 configurable product.
Go to Catalog > Products.
In the Add Product dropdown, choose Configurable Product.
On the New Product page, fill in the information about your configurable product.
Then scroll down to the Configurations section, and click Create Configurations button.
Note: In Magento 2, you need to first use the Create configurations tool to create the simple products to associate, then you can add your existing simple products manually.
A Create Product Configurations window will appear. You need to finish these 4 steps.
In step 1, choose only 1 attribute code, it doesn’t matter which one. Then click Next.
In step 2, choose only 1 attribute value, it doesn’t matter which one. Then click Next.
In step 3, keep all three options as Skip as default. Then click Next.
In step 4, click the Generate Product button.
After done, you will see 1 child product for the new configuration product. And most importantly, the Add Products Manually option has appeared.
Remove the child product you just created, then click Add Products Manually.
A Select Associated Product window will appear. Here you can tick any of your existing simple products to assign to your new configuration product.
Then click Done.
